TOP Hockey Academy Teams
Program Information
For the 2023-2024 season, TOP Hockey will be offering Academy teams & Pre-Academy programs for players born between 2009-2016. The TOP Hockey Academy Teams offer players a unique approach to competitive hockey by offering local ice-time, manageable schedules, and quality coaching, all while improving players' individual skills and providing a great hockey experience.
We believe in focusing on the process, not the outcome, with all of our practices and games, and believe strongly that age-appropriate development is the best way to keep kids in sport longer. We structure our practices so that players are placed into small groups rotating through stations focusing on individual skills, technical instruction, and game-based learning. We believe our small group format is essential for kids to get individual feedback, quality coaching, and high-level engagement. All practices take place in Midtown Toronto, while some games and/or tournaments may require minimal travel.
Hockey Season: Early September to Early April
Academy Teams
*tryouts are required to make these teams
- 2009 to 2014 birthyears (one team per birthyear)
- Fall Commitment: 3x week practices, generally one weekday morning, one weeknight, and one weekend
- Winter Commitment: 3x week practices, generally one weekday morning and one weeknight. No Fridays or Saturdays. Earliest start on Sundays is 5pm.
- Tournaments: 2-4 tournaments per season, depending on age group
- Games 12-32 games per season, depending on age group
- Included: TOP Hockey uniform (bag, game jersey x2, socks, helmet stickers)
Pre-Academy Program:
- 2015 & 2016 birthyears (one team per birthyear)
- Fall Commitment: 3x week practices, generally one weekday morning, one weeknight, and one weekend
- Winter Commitment: 2x week practices, generally one weekday morning and one weeknight. No Fridays or Saturdays. Earliest start on Sundays is 5pm.
- Tournaments: 1-2 tournaments per season, depending on schedule
- Games 6-8 'TOP Showdown' interclub games
- Included: TOP Hockey uniform (bag, game jersey x2, socks, helmet stickers)
